Thank you for signing Council for a Livable World's "No Permanent Presence" statement to stop President Bush from committing U.S. troops to Iraq for generations to come. Over 8,000 other people have added their names.
Jan 24, 2008: Write Your Reps: No Permanent Presence in Iraq
You already know that President Bush is trying to commit U.S. troops to a long-term presence in Iraq without the approval of Congress or the American people.
Jan 17, 2008: 100 Years in Iraq?
When the Bush Administration launched its attack on Iraq in 2003, it assured the American public that the war would be quick, cheap and easy. Wrong on all three counts.
Jan 15, 2008: Send Al Franken to Senate
Though Al Franken from Minnesota is an award-winning satirist, comedian, entertainer and author, he is also a serious candidate to take a Senate seat away from a George W. Bush clone.

Jan 8, 2008: Help Save an Anti-War Republican
If congressional voting in 2007 on the war in Iraq proves one thing, it is this: Democrats need substantial Republican support in Congress to end the war.
Jan 7, 2008: A Look Back at 2007
As a new year begins, we would like to take a look back at 2007 and celebrate some important victories with you – some of which were won in legislation passed at the end of the year in the midst of holiday preparations:
Dec 18, 2007: Our Holiday Wish List
During the winter holidays, we want to thank you for your staunch support of Council for a Livable World, and offer you our holiday wish list
Dec 14, 2007: Iowa and New Hampshire: Make your Predictions!
On January 3, Iowa will hold the first presidential caucuses in the nation. Five days later, on January 8, New Hampshire will hold the first presidential primary. These states are the hotbeds for political polling - one day one person is ahead, the next day someone else.
Dec 12, 2007: False Case for Iran War - Caught on Tape!
We now have proof that President Bush was not honest with the American people when he tried to promote WWIII with Iran. Check it out on Council for a Livable World's new video.
Dec 6, 2007: GOP trying to dump Iraq war opponent
Maryland Republican Representative Wayne Gilchrest epitomizes courage. A Vietnam War veteran, he is one of a very few Republicans willing to stand up to George W. Bush and vote to end the Iraq war. As a result, the Republican establishment is trying to dump him in the February 5 Republican primary.
Dec 4, 2007: Bush commits to endless Iraq war
Those of us who think we'll wake up from America's foreign policy nightmare in January 2009 may need to think again. Last week, President Bush signed an agreement with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki that commits the U.S. to a "long term" relationship with Iraq. This document is the first step toward a binding agreement Bush plans to sign next year that will commit his successor to a permanent relationship with Iraq.
Nov 28, 2007: Time running out for tough questions to Dems
If you still have questions on where the presidential candidates stand on major national security issues, the time to find answers is quickly running out. The Iowa Caucuses and the New Hampshire primary are less than six weeks away - January 3 and January 8, respectively.
Nov 20, 2007: Tell the Turkeys - Have a Good Thanksgiving
Even though the turkeys continue to rule the White House, we think there is still much to give thanks for on this holiday. More than once, we have knocked the stuffing out of the neo-conservatives who want to engage the United States in new wars to spread democracy at the point of the gun.
Nov 14, 2007: Put the Handcuffs on Bush
Remember prior to the invasion of Iraq, when the Bush Administration predicted that a war against Iraq would cost only $50 to $60 billion? How about when former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld brushed off war cost estimates of $300 billion as "baloney"?With war costs already topping $600 billion, President Bush is asking for another $50 billion for war to tide him over and fund the war until February 2008 – a down payment on a total request of $190 billion in war funding for 2008.
Nov 8, 2007: Help Elect Merkley to Senate
Voters are fed up with the direction of our country. They're tired of empty rhetoric and failed solutions. In large and small ways, they are demanding change and are ready to hold the President and the Congress accountable.
Nov 6, 2007: You can stop war with Iran
If U.S. warplanes fly toward Iran next year, October 2007 may be remembered as the month that the Bush administration began its final push to prepare the American public for a new conflagration in the Middle East. To many, it looked like the 2002 run-up to the attack against Iraq. As Yogi Berra said, it's "déjà vu all over again." Sequels are meant for the movies, not for disastrous Middle East wars.
Nov 2, 2007: Take our Iran message to the streets
Thank you for your contributions last week to help run an anti-Iran war ad throughout the country. Though the drums of war are beating louder, so are the voices of those who oppose them, thanks to you.
Oct 24, 2007: Star Wars to Europe?
We've already written to you about President Bush's threats to attack Iran. Now, Bush is compounding the problem by using Iran as a justification for deploying a dangerous and costly missile defense system in Eastern Europe. This provocative action is further damaging our already frayed relationship with Russia.
Oct 22, 2007: $200 Million to promote WWIII?
How much would you be willing to contribute to prevent war with Iran? The New York Times recently reported that Freedom Watch, a neo-conservative advocacy group with close links to the White House, is hoping to raise as much as $200 million dollars to defend the Iraq War and to promote a military confrontation with Iran.
