It's Time to Talk to Iran
June 10, 2008
Washington, D.C. -- The Campaign for a New American Policy on Iran (CNAPI), a campaign coordinated by over a dozen bi-partisan organizations, including the Council for a Livable World, is coordinating an exciting and unprecedented on event on Capitol Hill on June 10. The “Time to Talk with Iran”event and press conference will be held on the Terrace of the west side of the Cannon House Office Building from 10 am until 1 pm.
With the U.S. Capitol backdrop, Members of Congress -- including Reps. Barbara Lee, Lynn Woolsey, Ron Paul and Keith Ellison -- will join congressional staffers, former administration officials, and other citizens visiting Capitol Hill to use a row of 60’s-era red “hotline” telephones to talk directly to average Iranian citizens.
All who live in the D.C. area are invited to join us.

Just last week, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert hinted after a meeting with Bush that U.S. action against Iran was imminent. "With every day that goes by we get closer to stopping the Iranian nuclear plan," Olmert was quoted as saying. Campaign supporters believe that a military confrontation with Iran would have enormous human and financial costs and would plunge the Middle East, and global economy, into further violence and chaos.
Dozens of non-governmental organizations and many prominent individuals support the CNAPI mission statement, including former high-level U.S. officials, prominent experts and others working in Washington.
The Campaign advocates direct, sustained, unconditional and comprehensive talks between the governments of the United States and Iran as a realistic way to resolving the long-standing conflicts between the two countries.
